I purchased a digital copy for a book and waited for a good week for it but then received an email saying that my order was cancelled

Rented a book from the store last semester. I didn't return it on time so they attempted to charge the credit card they had on file, when they were unable to process the payment they immediately suspended my account and "forgot" to notify me by e-mail, phone or otherwise.

This is totally unacceptable, students need their textbooks immediately and the bookstore is responsible for providing them. It is ridiculous that despite the gross overpricing of the textbooks sold in the store, the service is pitiful. A student shouldn't have to wait multiple business days just to, maybe, get the chance to buy/rent the books that are listed on the website as available in-store when the semester is already in full-swing and every day they don't have their books is putting them behind in their studies. At the prices we pay for tuition and books, there is simply zero excuse for this lack of customer service and it should absolutely not be this difficult to make a simple payment on an outstanding balance. This needs to change. I strongly recommend purchasing your books elsewhere/online, you will save money and save yourself a headache.

I was told the manager was available and the cashier went out to get her, after waiting about 10 minutes the cashier returned and told me the manager couldn't speak with me but if I left my information they would contact me within a few business days. I told her this was unacceptable as the semester was already in full-swing and I needed to begin my required readings A.S.A.P. I was told that the manager is unavailable and if I wanted to leave with my textbooks I would need to purchase them at full-price (I intended to rent them). I asked if there was an accounting department or something similar that I could call to try and have my account settled and was told that I should call Follett Canada.

Following the cashiers advice, I returned home empty-handed and called Follett only to be told that the only way to make the payment on my outstanding balance was to go into the bookstore and speak to the manager. Naturally this had me frustrated, so I called the bookstore and was greeted by an automated voice system which transferred me to the manager's office. Of course there was no answer, so I left a detailed message and my number and requested to be contacted A.S.A.P. After waiting over an hour, I did not hear back so I called again and this time was greeted by a store employee who said they could go get the manager for me to speak with. They returned a couple of minutes later saying the manager couldn't speak with me right now but if I left my information they would call me back within 2-3 business days.

This semester, I returned to the bookstore to purchase/rent my textbooks for my new set of classes. Upon getting to the cash after receiving zero help finding my books (two of which still weren't available, despite being 1 week into the semester,) I am told my account is suspended and that I can't rent my books. I explained that I hadn't returned my previous textbook as I still needed it and wanted to pay the difference, there was no online option to do so, so I waited until I needed my new textbooks to make the payment. Apparently this issue had virtually the entire staff confused as to how to proceed and so after roughly 5 minutes of fumbling and rambling, I was finally told the only way to unfreeze the account, was to pay the outstanding balance (which I had offered to do right from the start). I agreed and offered to pay but was told that they couldn't accept my payment because my account was frozen. Frustrated, I asked to speak with a manager since it makes no sense that the only way to unfreeze the account is to make a payment, but that payment can't be made because the account is frozen.

The store is always crazy busy at the start of the new semester and I've personally waited in line for a cashier for over an hour before.

If you're going to buy from the bookstore I highly recommend buying whatever you need on their site in advance and then choosing in-store pick-up. They'll have them ready for you at a side counter when you go in and it saves you waiting for a cashier.

Good for uOttawa apparel, but if you go to Agora to buy books you can support the Student Federation.
