  I was really pleased with my service from this store. I dealt with a charming lady named Elizabeth who was really helpful. I bought a great Canadian designed Birks 135th anniversary watch. The watch is amazing. It's a mechanical watch made by the Swiss manufacturer Alpina with design by Birks. The watch was more than 50% off as part of a black Friday/cyber Monday sale. Despite the fact that they were not making much money on the sale, they ordered it in for me from another store in Toronto. They seemed genuinely happy to see me get a great deal.

  This review is with regards to the service my boyfriend and I received from ELIZABETH at Birks Rideau Centre. In one word...amazing! Her expertise and knowledge of diamonds is second-to-none; and her patience and caring attitude makes her the perfect professional anyone should go see when shopping for diamonds.

  I am writing this review because I have experienced rude service on multiple occasions from this store. The first time was before Christmas, I walked in and I spoke to an asian lady. I told her I needed to find my mother a gift that's no more than $1000. She showed me a few choices and couldn't wait for me to leave. So I did. I went home and researched many other options that fit my budget from Birks, but she didn't want to waste anytime on me to show me them.

  For my part, I'm so pleased to get a great Canadian watch from a store that has a such a long Canadian pedigree. I'm far happier with this watch than with any Rolex and so is my bank account.

  The lady who ended up adjusting the watch was the same asian lady that I spoke with back around Christmas time. When we were checking out, she keep asking my husband where he purchased the watch in a demeaning manner, he said he had to buy it overseas because it's the only watch he liked but Birks or other jewellers simply didn't carry them, and he had been looking for over a year. She was so rude and not pleased the fact we didn't buy a watch at Birks. She took it very personal and made sure we knew how unhappy she was - she didn't look at us once when she was asking any of these questions. Therefore, all the questions we felt were an interrogation, in fact I think she was trying to find a loophole to tell us we bought a second hand or fake Tag since she keep saying they stopped selling them 2 years ago. We keep telling her, we've been trying to find this watch for a long time and finally found it overseas.

  My wife and I spent some time looking at watches, the service was fantastic! The sales people are genuinely interested and excited about the products they sell, which is a nice change from the higher pressure sales out there.

  Our second experience was tonight, my husband purchased a limited edition Tag Grand Carrera from overseas and needed adjustment. We knew they carried the same brand but they didn't have this particular watch. We walked in and asked if we could have it adjusted, an asian man without seeing the watch said "if you didn't buy it here, we won't service you". Fortunately, a nice lady noticed the watch and offered to adjust it for us because they carry the same brand. She was particular lovely and helped us, which is the reason this rating is not a one star.

  I'm sorry, but even if we did like anything Birks carry, based on the attitude we were treated with, I don't think we would buy it from them anyways - we would go to Bayshore next time. Also, we certainly did not need to convince her we bought a genuine watch. Now my husband and I like to dress casual when we are not working but perhaps that was the problem, we didn't look the part so she didn't believe us. It's disappointing how some salespeople can be. I am in luxury car sales, so I've been in her shoes, I have not and would never treat anyone the way she did with us. I will still take this experience as a learning experience and hope she sees this review and learn from it as well.

  We didn't realise it but they stayed open an extra 15 minutes just for us. Can't say enough about them just really great and knowledgeable people!

  Great experience! When I began shopping for an engagement ring I knew I wanted a diamond and ring that was mined, polished and set all in Canada. I worked with Fay who allowed me to search their inventory for a ring with not only an excellent cut, but with the right cut specifications I was looking for to get that "fire" and "sparkle" out of the diamond! Overall, a wonderful experience and I would recommend both BIRKS and Fay!
